Stories from the Loom
It takes a master weaver 12 hours to weave just the border of one sari.
That single fact tells you everything you need to know about Jamdani — the world’s finest handwoven fabric and the soul of Taati Studio’s most luxurious pieces.
The Legend of Jamdani Jamdani has been woven in the villages of Bangladesh for over 500 years. The name comes from the Persian words “jam” (flower) and “dani” (vase) — a perfect description of the delicate floral motifs that seem to float across the fabric like a dream.
Today, only a handful of master weavers still practice this ancient art in its purest form.

How Jamdani Is Made – The 6-Step Process
Unlike machine weaving, every inch of real Jamdani is created entirely by hand on a wooden loom.
Here is exactly how your pillow cover or bed cover comes to life:
⦁ Preparing the loom — The base threads (warp) are stretched across a traditional wooden loom passed down through generations.
⦁ Creating the design — The weaver mentally maps the pattern — no printed design, just memory and skill.
⦁ The extra-weft technique — This is the magic. While the base fabric is woven, the artisan inserts extra colored threads (buti) by hand, one at a time, to create the intricate motifs.
⦁ The 12-thread dance — For the finest borders, up to 12 separate threads are individually controlled with the weaver’s fingers and feet.
⦁ Hours of patient work — A single meter can take an entire day.
⦁ Finishing — The fabric is washed, dried in the sun, and gently pressed by hand.

Modern Revival at Taati Studio
We work directly with master weavers like Mohammad Karim and Shafiqur Rahman in Rupganj and Tangail. Instead of selling to middlemen for low prices, they now have steady orders, fair wages, and the dignity their craft deserves.
Their work appears in our pillow covers, cushion covers, and limited-edition bed covers — each piece carrying the name of the weaver who made it.
Why You’ll Feel the Difference
When you touch a real Jamdani piece from Taati Studio, you immediately notice:
⦁ The incredible softness of the handwoven cotton
⦁ The raised texture of the hand-inserted motifs
⦁ The slight natural variations that prove it was made by human hands
This is not just fabric. It is living heritage you can sleep under every night.
